Today's most-wanted showers create the sense of a spa space. A built-in seating area adds the finishing touch to your shower spa. If you're not willing to commit to creating a built-in shower bench, add a simple teak or water-resistant bench to your shower.
Fortunately, a bathroom naturally lends itself to lots of texture. Start by anchoring the tub or shower with a plush rug or mat. Make sure the space includes multiple layers of soft towels. Top off the room with a few spa accessories such as fluffy robes to make it especially luxurious.
A simple mirror can get a glamorous update with the addition of backlighting. You can purchase mirrors with built-in lights, or add them yourself to the mirror of your choosing. Illuminated mirrors are ideal for applying makeup and seeing your face in a detailed (but flattering) way. They're great for bathrooms with low natural light. Just be sure that your lighting is soft, not harsh or fluorescent.
It's good to think about resale value when making changes to a bathroom, especially because white and off-white are the most popular color schemes in that room. That said, your bathroom is a space that all of your guests will likely see at some point; so if you want to make a statement, this is the place to do it. Think about it the same way you would your kitchen backsplash: You want it to be timeless and clean, and to not turn off potential buyers.
