In the kitchen, gray is best shown in larger features rather than small accessories. One of the best ways to infuse gray into the kitchen is to replace or paint your cabinets. For smaller spaces, try a medium to pale gray (sometime called a French gray).
A good general rule for enclosed kitchens is to place it in the center of the room. That way it's equally accessible from all sides and won't be an obstacle for people walking through. That placement might not work best for all kitchens, however. A perimeter island, for example, might work better with open floor plans. Size and shape are also determined by room's layout; Allow for at least 36-48 inches between the perimeter of the island and the surrounding cabinets so there's enough room for people to move around.
Accessorizing with colors is also an easy and inexpensive alternative to renew any room. Colorful bar stools, chairs, window treatments or accessories can really breathe new life to the kitchen while giving you the freedom to update with new colors every year.
Brass has made a huge comeback as an accent throughout the entire home. In the kitchen, replacing chrome hardware with brass pieces can turn ordinary cabinets into extraordinary. Follow up with brass accessories, such as a teakettle or rimmed plates and drinkware.
